As a professional trader, you can be your own boss. Professional trading is a relatively low overhead, location-independent business in which you can for the rest of your life. If you are well trained and appropriately experienced, you can build significant wealth. Bottom line: professional trading can be a path to freedom.
NO! Don’t believe the lies about trading your way to quick, easy wealth. Like every other potentially lucrative profession, trading requires significant training and practice to become consistently profitable. Remember, 95% of all those who attempt to trade professionally fail. If trading success were quick and easy, that would not true.
In preparing to become a professional trader, the following questions need to be asked and answered. We have only begun to sketch answers to these questions because there is so much information required to address them adequately and each trader is different. The ATW’s courses address all of these questions in detail.
Most professionals are futures day traders because that decision best optimizes potential return, risk management, diversification, leverage, liquidity and tax treatment for most traders. However, each trader has a unique combination of traits and experiences that should be taken into account in make these decisions.
You will need a broker, an account, appropriate computer hardware and software.
In general, we recommend that the starting account size should be $10000 per stock index or currency futures contract traded and that no more than 1% of that account be risked on any one trade. However, this is a very individual decision, and the ATW offers several approaches to fit traders’ specific circumstances.
You will be competing against the best and the brightest. Those who survive as retail traders and the traders who work for the institutions have become experts through extensive training and experience. To compete against them successfully, you will also need extensive training and experience.
Before trading live, you should have one or more back-tested systems each with a defined statistical edge. Each system should define entries, position sizes, stops, profit targets, exits, and trade and risk management techniques. You should have achieved consistent profitability in simulated trading for at least a month.

If you were ill, would you go to a doctor who had not completed medical school? If you needed legal help, would you go to an attorney who had not completed law school? Why, then, would you consider putting your trading account in the hands of someone, YOU, who had not completed professional training?
Most trading education firms promise you success if you learn just one new thing. If that were true, many more traders would succeed. We will teach you to become a trader not just to trade a system.
